Being animals camp for ages 4-7

August 18-22 half and full day options

Meets on the brookwood school campus

summer 2025 Information

Summary In this enchanted wildlife camp for little explorers, we will magically turn into a different local animal each day. We will read and tell stories, play movement games, and find friends, food, and homes as our animals. Finally, we will go off in search of our fellow creatures! If your young child loves being in nature, they will find something to enjoy at this camp. Our staff understand that every child’s introduction to the natural world is different, and we build a culture at our camp that allows for them to be themselves, and pursue what interests them. We also know that young children learn best with a mix of routine and child-led play, so we have designed our camp day around these practices. We anticipate this camp being fully outdoors except in the case of dangerous weather conditions. We will be meeting in the Brookwood Forest School, on the Beverly side of campus.

Details: This camp will take place entirely in Brookwood’s Forest School and surrounding trails, woodlands, brooks, and ponds. We’ve found the site is a perfect place to discover salamanders and frogs, birds and turtles.

Our day begins with some open ended challenges and then our circle and story time, when we we learn the animal of the day and hear the “spell” that transforms everyone into that animal. The rest of the morning is filled with some movement games and an exploration of the wild. We might go looking for hollow logs or delicious plant foods, or finding small trees to climb. We might drag our nets through a brook looking for cool insects or salamanders, or even build a giant nest. It all depends on the animal of the day. After lunch, we engage in some outdoor free time for exploring and playing. And finally, we end our day with a “making stuff” challenge related to our animal of the day.
