survival skills club

(formerly called forestbook)

for 7-12 year olds

Learn the skills of a forest naturalist and outdoor explorer, and gain stamps in your “Forestbook” for each level you advance. Some of our Forestbook skills include firecrafting, animal and plant identification, wayfinding, and rope wrangling. Our instructors will guide learning and also invite independent practice of the safer skills, and allow more independence as skills are gained. Knife and fire work is always closely supervised. Kestrel’s Forestbook skills tracker includes 8 skills, each with 5 levels. Our weekly club meetings will allow students to focus on one skill per week, and practice between classes to advance their levels if they wish.

Scroll to the bottom of this page to see the Forestbook Skills Tracker, with descriptions of skills and levels.

This is a drop -off club.

This club is 100% outdoors in all weather, except for indoor bathrooms. Come in layers when weather may be cool or rainy. Hazardous weather cancels.
